How many WiFi Hubs do I need?

Only 1 WiFi Hub is needed if you want to connect all your SmartThings devices. But if you want to use the Hub as a WiFi mesh to extend your WiFi signal coverage, you will need at least 2 units for the mesh capability to work.

Here are the recommendations on the number of units based on the size of the home:

2 Bedrooms - 2 units

Multi-storey homes - 3 or more units

Will the SmartThings plugs and sensors work without the Wifi hub?

No. The plugs and sensors need the WiFi hub since they use Zigbee protocol to communicate.

Can I connect other smart devices to the SmartThings WiFi hub even if they’re from a different brand?

The SmartThings WiFi Hub is compatible with over 4,000 devices. Look for the “Works with SmartThings” icon on your devices or check the SmartThings app.

Is SmartThings compatible with voice assistants?

Yes. It is compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung Bixby.

Do the SmartThings components consume electricity?

Sensors are battery powered so they do not consume electricity. Plugs, on the other hand, consume a very small amount equivalent to an average of just Php 0.12 per device per day. These plugs are constantly on standby mode to receive your commands.
